FIFA Referees Committee have announced the list of selected names of the match officials for the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. The list includes 36 referees, 69 assistant referees, and 24 VMOs (Video Match Officials).
For the first time in the history of the FIFA World Cup, 6 women referees have been included in the list, 3 women referees and 3 women assistant referees.
The Committee have selected referees with the highest level of efficiency. The President of the FIFA Referees Committee Pierluigi Collina believes that a high standard of refereeing is what makes a successful World Cup.
“The 2018 World Cup was very successful, partly because of the high standard of refereeing, and we will do our best to be even better in a few months in Qatar.”
The VAR system was implemented in the 2018 World Cup in Russia and made it a successful event. 24 VMOs will work in Qatar and be always ready to provide technical assistance for the referees on the pitch. The preparation seminars for selected match officials will start early in the summer.
