Summary
Stadium 974 is a football stadium in Ras Abu Aboud, Doha, Qatar. It was formerly known as Ras Abu Aboud Stadium. The stadium will host matches during Qatar’s upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup.
It is located in the eastern part of the Qatari capital and is the first temporary venue in FIFA World Cup history. Fenwick Iribarren Architects worked on designing the arena. The company revealed its blueprint on November 26, 2017. Early construction operations began in mid-October of the same year. Although, the main work started on November 1, 2019. Works completed without any major issues.
Construction of the arena will be completed in March 2021. Interestingly, constructors used fewer materials to build the venue than it usually takes for this scale. This was due to the high usage of ready-made units. The venue was unveiled on November 20, 2021, with a virtual opening ceremony. The stadium made its debut with a match in the Arab Cup 2021.
The stadium has a rectangular shape with clear round edges. Because modular steel units are employed in construction, it appears to be formed of huge Lego bricks. The auditorium has a 40,000-seat capacity. A strip of boxes divides the auditorium into two portions. In addition, the stadium stands near the bay. This helps the stadium keep the thermal situation normal with a natural refreshing breeze.
